We already know about Steve Jobs’ biography (coming out later this month). But it seems like Walter Isaacson, the author of the biography who Steve trusted and agreed to do more than 40 interviews with, didn’t deserve that trust. He recently granted the right for Sony Pictures to produce a movie from his book. Price? well $3 million if the movie ended up being produced, and if not, Isaacson will still be getting $1 million.
Before he died, Steve had made it clear the reason he agreed to a biography is because he wanted his children to know him, and to know why he wasn’t able to be there for them all the time. But a movie? He wouldn’t have been happy about this.
I really can’t stand seeing Steve’s life being commercially debated like this, after he spent it trying to stay as private as he could. It hasn’t even been 3 full days since he passed away and the one author who exclusively spent all that time with him is already out after wealth.
