RIM, the company behind Blackberry phones, had their first bloggers conference in Kuwait last Wednesday. The conference was presented by Mr. Mohammed Al-Mafleh, director of product management, who mainly showcased the new Blackberry 7.1 OS, Blackberry Playbook OS 2.0, and updates to the Blackberry Messenger (BBM).
Blackberry 7.1 OS: Sharing information is now directly possible between NFC-enabled Blackberry devices. Users can instantly invite a friend to BBM, exchange contact information, documents, URLs, photos, and other multimedia content. The OS also supports the latest version of BBM 6.1 (see the new features below). Other new capabilities in the Blackberry 7.1 OS is the Wi-Fi hotspot and FM radio.
BBM 6.1: Features animated avatars, 12 new emoticons, colored chat bubbles, and customized personal messages of up to 160 characters in the user’s online profile.
Blackberry Playbook OS 2.0: Messaging experience is improved with a new unified inbox for all your emails, multi tasking within email, rich-text email composing and editing, and inbox management tools.
There were also other Blackberry devices around the room for anyone who would like to test them out.
I loved how the event was organized. The attention to details was obvious. Everything around the place was customized with the Blackberry logo; little flags, light, pillows, and even cupcakes.
We also got to check out the new Blackberry Porsche design.

And the folks at Blackberry didn’t allow us to leave empty handed.
Thank you Dareen Awwad for the lovely event.
