Cleaning My Laptop’s Fan – You Should Too

If you follow me on Instagram (@Froyonation) you might have an idea that I performed a little operation on my laptop a few days ago. It has been heating up like crazy lately that I couldn’t even put it on my lap. And since I’ve never cleaned the fan from the day I bought the laptop back in 2008, I figured it was about time šŸ˜›

It’s a very easy and simple process. I’m not an expert but even I could do it at home. So here’s the how to..

1. Turn off your laptop, remove the battery (which I forgot to do :P)

2. Locate the fan. It’s where the little opening on the side would be. unscrew the cover.

3. I was expecting much more thicker dust. Thankfully it wasn’t that bad.

4. Use a vacuum to suck out all the dust. Don’t worry it won’t suck up any parts. Just try to keep a distance, don’t touch the laptop’s insides with the vacuum head.

If there were sticky dust remains try a different vacuum head that has a brush to scrub them off. Be extremely gentle when you use that.

5. And you’re done.

Although there wasn’t much accumulated dust but the difference in performance is huge! It barely even heats up anymore.

I should also mention that this process might not be the same for all laptops. Your laptop’s hardware can be put together differently than mine, which is a Sony Vaio VGN-CR320 by the way.

If you’re having heating problems with your laptop and can’t clean the fan yourself there’s always Hawalli šŸ˜Ž

    • The whole process will not take you more than 10 minutes. Try it and I hope it works for you too!

    • Both work just fine. But a vacuum is a more common household item for the average person.
