So Kuwait has been suspended from the Olympics since 2010 because of government interference, creating a problem for Kuwaiti athletes who wanted to participate in this year’s London games 2012.
While Kuwait’s fate is still under study, it has been decided that Kuwaiti athletes can still compete as “independent Olympic athletes” and march in London’s opening ceremony under the Olympic flag instead of Kuwait’s flag.
Eight Kuwaiti athletes have already qualified for London.
It’s a shame how those athletes will not be able to officially represent Kuwait at an event as big as the Olympics. But they should definitely take the chance they have to compete anyway.
