Venus will be passing between our earth and the sun tomorrow in a very rare phenomenon called “transit”. The last time this happened was in 2004 but the last time before that was in 1882, and the next time will be in 2117!
You really, really shouldn’t miss it.
To watch the phenomenon in Kuwait (GMT +3):
- Date: Wednesday, 6 June 2012
- Visible starting at 4:51 am (beginning of sunrise) – until 7:50 am (after that, you will still be able to see Venus near the sun, not in front of it, until 2:30 pm of the same day)
DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN WITH YOUR BARE EYES. Make sure you have proper eye protection, either special solar glasses or filters or welding goggles. NOT sunglasses.
You can use this simulator (link) to see how it will exactly look like for us in Kuwait (or any other country), hour by hour. Just click on the “find my location” button on the right and start watching.
NASA will be broadcasting the phenomenon online from Hawaii starting on 6 June 2012 at 1:30am (Kuwait time) here
