Kuwait and Iraq are planning to start a new joint airways by the end of this year. The reason behind this plan is to settle the issue of Iraq’s compensation for Kuwait after taking ten air crafts during the Iraqi invasion in 1990.
Kuwait Airways has been seeking US$1.2bn in compensation, and Iraq agreed to allocate US$500m to end the dispute; $300m in cash, and the other $200m to be invested in the joint airline. Which by the way will be a whole new airline by itself, not a result of combining the 2 current airlines.
Weird solution I must say.
