Al-Hamra Gets A Silver Award

Emporis Skyscraper awards

Al-Hamra tower, Kuwait’s tallest skyscraper, scored 2nd place at the Emporis Skyscraper Awards out of over 220 skyscrapers completed in 2011.

What’s really impressive is the fact that Al-Hamra comes after a very significant first place winner; The Beekman building in New York, the first skyscraper by Frank Gehry; the same architect behind the famous Guggenheim museum in Spain. Even though I dislike his repetition sometimes but he still is an internationally-recognized figure in the field of architecture. And coming as runner up to his design is really something.

3rd Place went to the Etihad Towers in Abu-Dhabi.

    • I didn’t really have an extensive look at the judging criteria but I’m sure it’s explainable.
